Urgent Couriers drives home awards at Sustainable 60

New Zealand’s only carbon neutral courier company last night received a joint award in the medium company Overall Exemplar category of the inaugural Sustainable 60 Awards.

Urgent Couriers received the award alongside The New Zealand Merino Company and also took home awards in the workplace and environment categories.

Judges of the Fairfax Media/PricewaterhouseCoopers Sustainable 60 series were particularly impressed with Urgent Couriers’ strategic direction and drive to encourage best practice environmental initiatives within the organisation. It was also noted that they are the only courier company to be certified carbon neutral.

The judges also recognised the company’s commitment to ensuring the long-term financial viability of its contractors.

Urgent Couriers Managing Director, Steve Bonnici says entering the Sustainable 60 series was another opportunity for the company to thoroughly examine its business activities.

“It’s an honour to be recognised amongst such esteemed company, and to be awarded the workplace and environment categories – the two aspects of our business that are critical to our success and point of difference.

“Winning these awards reinforces the importance of the sustainable business model we integrated more than ten years ago now.

“Sustainability has future-proofed our business and positioned Urgent Couriers as leaders within the transport industry,” says Mr Bonnici.

Urgent Couriers’ sustainable business model demonstrates that businesses shouldn’t be afraid of the financial costs of going carbon neutral, for instance, he says.

“Our investments in emissions reduction initiatives have generated new business right from the word go and we’ve seen the benefits across the bottom line.”
