Trans Tasman National Dispute Resolution Bodies Announce Joint Conference
National alternative dispute resolution (ADR) bodies, the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand and the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia (IAMA) have agreed to hold a joint conference in Christchurch, New Zealand, 5-7 August 2010. The Conference will bring together the leaders in ADR from throughout the region and promises to be the largest dispute resolution gathering New Zealand has ever staged.
The conference will focus on all methods of ADR including mediation, adjudication, expert determination and arbitration. Speakers have yet to be announced. The announcement of the joint conference comes after the signing of a memorandum of understanding to promote the utilisation of arbitration, mediation and other ADR methods in the region between the two organisations in May 2009. The agreement was struck following the Australian Attorney-General Robert McClelland and New Zealand Justice Minister Simon Power announcement earlier this year that both countries will introduce legislation as a priority to make resolving legal disputes across the Tasman cheaper, more efficient and less complicated.
The Conference is sponsored by Christchurch law firm Lane Neave.
