206,000 New Zealanders Join 2degrees Mobile

206,000 New Zealanders Join 2degrees Mobile In First Six Months

2degrees Mobile today announced that 206,000 people are now actively using its new services and are enjoying the best use of its great value mobile calling and texting rates.

2degrees CEO Eric Hertz said, “206,000 New Zealanders have chosen to join the 2degrees family to stay closer to friends and whanau. This is well ahead of our expectations and we’re delighted that we have struck such a chord with so many New Zealanders.

“Over the last six months we’ve exceeded initial expectations. We’ve successfully brought down prepaid prices for mobile services so that for the first time people in New Zealand are able to access a prepaid plan at prices below the OECD average.

“We’ve also made it even more attractive to bring your current mobile number over to 2degrees and we are seeing record numbers - 53,000 in fact - who have chosen to bring their existing mobile numbers with them,” he said.

“It’s going to be an exciting time ahead for mobile consumers,” said Eric. “We’ve only just begun.”

In its first six months of operation, 2degrees has achieved a number of significant milestones including:

Half price calling and texting – 2degrees has halved the standard published prepaid rate for calling from 89 cents to 44 cents a minute. It has further dropped the standard prepaid text rate from 20 cents to 9 cents.

Rewards for topping up – With Magic Top Up, 2degrees customers get an even better rate of just 22 cents a minute to call all 2degrees mobiles, as well as landlines in 22 countries including the UK, USA and Australia. Customers also “magically” get free texts to send to anyone in NZ. The greater the value of the top up, the more free texts customers can use.

An easy way to keep your mobile number – Customers don’t need to lose their number when they move to 2degrees. Over 53,000 people have taken advantage of number portability and have ported their 021 or 027 number to the 2degrees network.

Great customer service, for free! – 2degrees New Zealand-based call centre is available to support customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and it’s free for 2degrees customers to call.
