First For Biggest Business Event - A Green Event

Another First For Biggest Event For Business - A Green Event

New Zealand’s largest event for business, the Bizzone Business Expo is set to become the country’s first verified ‘green’ event. All 13,000 visitors to the Bizzone Business Expo in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are being encouraged to be sustainable, to recycle and reduce waste. The expo opens in 2010 in Auckland at the ASB Stadium on June 2.

Bizzone has engaged Green Event™ in 2010 to provide event monitoring and reporting services that establish environmental performance measures for residual waste, energy and carbon at all three Bizzone Business Expo Events. Green Event™ provides practical and cost effective solutions for making events more environmentally sustainable. ‘Green’ monitors will encourage everyone participating in the Bizzone Business Expos, including attendees, to recycle and be responsible for the waste they are producing at the event.

Waste at the Bizzone Business Expos has reduced considerably since organisers took sustainable policies onboard in 2008. In 2008 Bizzone partnered with Green Event to make the annual expo a more environmentally sustainable event. A number of waste reduction, energy efficiency and smart travel initiatives were implemented in 2008 and 2009 and have yielded measurable and positive environmental change. In 2010, Bizzone will be working with venues, suppliers and participants to make the event New Zealand’s first verified Green Event.

In the last year waste to landfill from the Bizzone Business Expos was cut by 25%, materials diverted from landfills increased by 95.6% and plans are in place to do even better this year.

“Running such a huge event means we are very conscious of our natural environment and the entire Bizzone team is committed to green guidelines,” says Annie Gandar, Bizzone’s Sustainability Manager. “Bizzone is committed to working towards zero waste in all our initiatives.”

“Business owners look to Bizzone for leadershiop,” Bizzone managing director Sarah Trotman says. “In 2008 ‘sustainability’ was the theme of the Bizzone Business Expo and we’ve had a consistent commitment to sustainability across the whole business since then. We’ve been well supported by experts on our journey like Simon Harvey from BusinessLAB.”

As part of its ‘green’ commitment and to raise awareness of sustainability the Bizzone Business Expo will have a Sustainability Zone where organisations offer sustainable support services and advice. People can also find out about beneficial cost cutting from introducing sustainable business goals.

“Green experts, mentors and services are all available at the Bizzone Business Expo to provide realistic steps so attendees can integrate sustainable strategies into their normal business practices,” Annie Gandar says.

The Bizzone Business Expos are on at:
• Auckland from 2-4 June at the ASB Showgrounds,
• Wellington 21-23 July at the TSB Bank Arena
• and Christchurch 11-13 August at the Convention Centre
