Nakedbus.com expands business and blows raspberries at competitors

Wednesday 26 May 2010 - For Immediate Release

An email campaign by over 150 customers has prompted nakedbus.com to add two new destinations to its timetable, Ohakune and Tongariro National Park.

Nakedbus.com CEO Hamish Nuttall says that seven months of planning and negotiating has finally paid off.

“It’s not just as simple as leasing a bus and hiring a driver. Profitability and risk have to be assessed, routes and stops have to be carefully planned and road-tested, and our internet booking engine has to be updated.”

“We only launched three years ago and already we’re expanding to areas without transport links… We’re the only bus company to reach Ohakune from a number of places including Cambridge, Taupo, Rotorua, Mt Maunganui, and Tauranga so we can proudly blow raspberries at our competitors,” laughs Mr Nuttall.

A Colmar Brunton Travellers’ survey released this morning revealed that 39 per cent of New Zealanders are planning to spend more on travel compared with last winter.

Tourism Industry Association chief executive Tim Cossar said skifields and mountain communities should be in for a bumper season.

Mike Smith from Ruapehu Alpine Lifts agrees.

“With close to record season pass sales we’re expecting a great winter season plus we’re welcoming over 800 staff to the Ruapehu team in June. We’re thrilled to hear that nakedbus.com is adding our region to its schedule,” enthuses Mr Smith.

Nakedbus.com’s service to Ohakune and Tongariro National Park goes live on Thursday June 17 in time for Mt Ruapehu’s season opening.

“The quicker customers book the cheaper their seats will be – at least one seat on every bus costs a dollar,” chuckles Mr Nuttall.
