Konica Minolta People Scoop Sales Prizes

Konica Minolta People Scoop #1 and #2 Prizes in Global Sales Competition

A New Zealand account manager for Konica Minolta is back from the technology giant’s international conference in Japan fresh from collecting his award as the top salesperson globally. From over 1,000 salespeople across Australia, Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East who were vying for the positions, Gavin Bethwaite achieved the world number 1 position for total colour sales of colour multifunctional printers over the last 12 months.

And Gavin is not Konica Minolta New Zealand’s only star player – his colleague Daniel Marshall (#1 for the previous two years) is the #2 global salesperson, while colleague Winston Kyme has taken the #10 spot on the global ladder.

Konica Minolta New Zealand also accounts for 18 of the top 100 salespeople internationally.

Konica Minolta General Manager Warwick Beban attributes the success of the pair not only to strong customer relationships but also to New Zealand businesses’ advanced approach to quality and sustainability.

“The clients we service, which run the gamut from government agencies to SMEs including large corporates, are looking for a very high quality level in both output and capability. Over the past eight years or so we have developed a major focus on the value of colour in business communications, which is the basis on which these salespeople have been judged globally.

“Gavin and Daniel’s success reflects not only the high standard at which Kiwi businesses are operating, but also our leadership in this area – Konica Minolta dominates the colour market in New Zealand, and continues to demonstrate advancement by international standards. We would like to take some credit for this, but it’s also indicative of New Zealand’s notable leadership in the area of technology adoption and implementation.”

No adjustment has been made for population or market size in the judging of the competition, with the criteria being based solely on volume of sales in the colour category, making the pair’s success against colleagues in all international markets all the more remarkable.

Mr Beban says despite differing approaches to their work – Daniel is “extremely self-driven, highly professional and focused on relationships”, while Gavin “tends to focus on account management with great attention to detail” – the two account managers’ topping of the international charts suggests that there is no single route to optimal sales.

He also notes that client demands mean that Konica Minolta New Zealand has also moved ahead of most of its offshore counterparts in areas such as sustainability.

“Businesses and managers have very clear KPIs now when it comes to sustainability. Sustainability encompasses economic, social and environmental measures, its not just about being green. Customers demand suppliers who can demonstrably support these areas, so products such as recycled colour machines remain extremely popular. We’re also making some major developments in the area of GPS in service vehicles to support our own sustainability strategy.”
