NZICT launches Smart Business Competition

NZICT launches Smart Business Competition

NZICT has launched a competition to educate small to medium businesses on how they can become smarter using technology.

The competition aims to raise awareness around investment in technology for businesses and how fast broadband can enable smarter use of technology for small to medium businesses (SMBs).

NZICT is looking to match the winner’s financial contribution dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $10,000 with ICT goods and services. NZICT will also supply a consultant for four days to ensure that the winner gains insight and value from the prize - valued at thousands of dollars.

The prize package could include cloud services, software as a service, virtualisation, hardware or any number of other ICT services, depending on the project, says NZICT vice Chair Andrew Hunt.

“We want to encourage and inspire other SMBs to think laterally when investing in technology and how they can utilise technology and broadband in a smarter way” he says.

The campaign aims to create a working case study showcasing the practice behind the design of an ICT project and the processes that follow.

“By showcasing an ICT project from start to finish, NZICT aims to grow understanding of how technology can positively alter New Zealand businesses,” says Hunt.

Businesses interested in entering need to enter through the NZICT website and have to be between five and 25 full-time employees and have a turnover of above $500,000.

The competition will close on 30 October, 2010. During November, NZICT will shortlist a maximum of five entrants. An NZICT representative will then meet with the shortlisted entrants to discuss their project ideas further. A winner or winners will be announced December, 2010.
