adidas partners with Continental to supply rubber technologies for sports footwear

Auckland, 13 September 2010.

adidas has partnered up with Continental, the European market leader in the car tyre segment, to supply the brand with the latest rubber compounds for sports shoes - with immediate effect. The two companies, both Official Sponsors of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South AfricaTM and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil recently signed a co-operation agreement to this end.

The Supernova Riot 3, the first trail running shoe utilising the rubber supplied by Continental, is already in retail stores in New Zealand, and the co-operation will gradually be extended to other running footwear. adidas chose to work with Continental due to its extensive portfolio of state of the art rubber compound technologies, and the two brands also have a shared love of sport through the consistent sponsorship of international football championships. "We are delighted to apply Continental rubber expertise to our footwear.

The Continental compounds provide a significant improvement in grip on all surfaces and weather conditions. There is huge potential in this collaboration and we look forward to developing it further" said Tim Robinson: Senior Project Manager, adidas innovation team, who initiated and developed the collaboration. The partnership is ongoing and more adidas products using Continental rubber technologies will be released throughout 2010 and 2011.
