New NZ$2.5 million project creates jobs

Christchurch, NZ – September 20, 2010 – Dynamic Controls, a global leader in electronic wheelchairs and scooters, has been awarded NZ$1.25 million of Government funding to develop an innovative new product line which will create jobs in New Zealand and improve the lives of wheelchair users worldwide.

Dynamic Controls CEO Charlotte Walshe says the company is matching the NZ$1.25 million investment by TechNZ, the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology’s (FRST) business assistance programme.

“This is an important vote of confidence in us from the New Zealand Government and TechNZ. The investment recognises Dynamic Controls’ track record of innovation and significance to the New Zealand economy,” Walshe says.

“We are pleased this project will create immediate and ongoing employment opportunities in Christchurch over the next two years,” she says. The Dynamic Controls design team will be expanded and specialist project management staff will be required.

“As well as stimulating the local economy, it is especially pleasing that this project has the potential to significantly improve the lives of those with a disability, which is a core Dynamic Controls goal,” Walshe says.

Richard Bentley, Group Manager, Manufacturing and High-growth Firms at FRST, says that Dynamic Controls has proven strength in research and development, and in meeting the global demand for innovation in its field of manufacturing expertise.

Details of the $2.5 million research and development project are confidential due to commercial sensitivity.

Dynamic Controls is the world’s leading manufacturer of electronic controls for powered wheelchairs and the company prides itself on creating products for the whole person. Dynamic Controls employs 360 staff with 190 based in Christchurch. In 2009 it had revenues of approximately NZ$100 million.
