Dancing in the aisles at Remuera New World

Dancing in the aisles at Remuera New World

Owner celebrates ten years with fun Christmas party

Adrian Barkla, owner-operator of Remuera New World, celebrated ten years of owning the thriving supermarket by throwing a Christmas party for his customers on 8 December.

Customers danced in the aisles as they enjoyed the entertainment Barkla and his team arranged for the Christmas celebration wine and cheese evening at the Clonbern Road supermarket.

Almost Elton, an Elton John tribute act from entertainer Greg Ward, was a huge success as were the performances by Latafale Auva’a, a talented singer who attends Kings College, and Saint Kentigern School students and talented musicians Jeramy Bhanabhai and Nicholas and Thomas Murray.

“It was a fantastic evening with nearly 1,000 people enjoying our hospitality,” says Barkla. “There was a tremendous community feel to the whole evening, which reflected the village-like atmosphere we enjoy in Remuera.

“I thank all the Remuera New World customers for their loyalty and support throughout another busy year, and wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas holiday season. I’d also like to thank all our hard-working staff and the Remuera Business Association members who helped create an amazing atmosphere of homelike hospitality.”

The 2010 celebration follows an equally successful customer party in 2009 when extensive renovations to Remuera New World were completed.

Members of the Remuera Business Association, in which Barkla plays an active role, supported the celebratory event by ‘waitressing’ for Barkla’s guests during the evening.

Remuera New World plays a huge part in the local community, supporting the surrounding primary and secondary schools and not-for-profit groups.
