ANZ NZ rolls-out “talking” ATMs for the vision impaired

ANZ New Zealand has teamed up with the Association of Blind Citizens New Zealand to offer “talking” ATMs that provide greater banking security and usability for the blind and vision impaired.

In collaboration with the Association, ANZ and The National Bank have begun incorporating the latest in ATM technology into its 750 ATMs – the largest network of ATMs in the country.

ABC NZ National President Clive Lansink said ANZ and The National Bank's ATMs are exemplary in terms of effectiveness and security for blind and vision impaired people. He said the ATMs make a huge difference to our lives.

"These ATMs give the blind and vision impaired the opportunity to do our banking independently. The added security features mean we can access our money and do our banking when it suits us, without the aid of bank tellers and without anyone looking over our shoulder," said Clive Lansink.

"The ATMs from ANZ and The National Bank are amongst the best because they put the blind and vision impaired at the same level as people with sight."

ANZ New Zealand Managing Director Retail Kerri Thompson said the new software took the standard audio-enabled “talking” ATM to a level that gave blind and vision impaired customers a more secure banking experience that was easier, safer and more convenient.
