Palmerston North Company Awarded $30 Million Nz Defence Force Contract

The New Zealand Defence Force has awarded a contract worth $30 million to Mainzeal Property and Construction Ltd based in Palmerston North to construct additional infrastructure at the Ohakea Air Force Base in the Manawatu. The infrastructure works includes the construction of thirteen engineering workshops covering 11000 square metres which will be used by the Royal NZ Air Force and possibly the NZ Army if plans to consolidate at Ohakea are realised in the future.

Tenders for the contract were advertised through GETS, the Government’s Electronic Tenders System and construction will commence in February. The building is expected to be ready for use in June 2012. The Air Force will use the facilities principally for aeronautical engineering maintenance and Army might use the paint workshop facilities.

"Its an exciting time for the NZDF and especially the Air Force at Ohakea. We are proud to be working with Mainzeal and the local community throughout the project," said Wing Commander Peter Neilson, the Project Manager.
