Auckland Airport's November traffic stoked by China, Korea visitors
Dec. 23 (BusinessDesk) - Auckland International Airport Ltd.'s overseas passenger traffic rose 3.8% in November, driven by visitors from China and South Korea.
Total international passenger movements excluding transits rose to 554,363 last month. Growth in offshore movements was 4.3%, outpacing a 1.5% increase in traffic on domestic routes, according to the company's monthly traffic update.
China was the bright spot through the global financial crisis and its insatiable demand for raw materials helped underpin the two major Australasian economies. Returning kiwis, always the biggest category, fell 1% to 115,910, and Australians rose 1.6% to 50.051.
Among the top 10 arrival countries, the U.K. volume suffered the biggest decline, falling 14% to 17,112.
Among the airport company's out-of-town investments, Queenstown Airport reported a 1.5% gain in domestic traffic to 59, 319 and international rose 38% to 6,409.
Volumes soared at Cairns Airport - international rose 39% to 55,587 and domestic 5.7% to 266,329. At MacKay Airport domestic passengers rose 12% to 87,150.
Shares of the airport company fell 0.5% to $2.16.
