LinkedIn unveils two new tools

LinkedIn unveils two new tools for professionals to stay ahead of their game

‘LinkedIn Signal’ and ‘LinkedIn Today’ deliver relevant, real-time insights and information to professionals

Sydney, Australia — March 11, 2011 — LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network on the Internet with more than 90 million members worldwide, is introducing two new innovative tools that enable professionals to search and discover the most relevant news and information that matters to them.

LinkedIn Signal makes it easy for professionals to make sense of the never-ending stream of status updates and news shared by others in the network. Professionals can discover relevant information they are interested in through dynamic filters, searches and trending topics.

Professionals can use Signal to filter and navigate their stream of information by network, company, industry, region, people and popular ‘hashtags’ or topics. This customised feed can be saved, ensuring they always stay on top with real-time updates of the information they want and need every time they check in.

LinkedIn Today in beta is a new product that surfaces the top headlines and stories being shared the most often by LinkedIn’s trusted network of professionals. LinkedIn Today offers a customised and tailored way to consume the top trending news relevant to a particular industry by determining what is being shared the most frequently by those industry professionals.

LinkedIn Today offers three lenses on the news that is only possible on LinkedIn. Members now have the ability to get a professional view of news stories and see what is trending by what their connections are reading, what news is impacting their industry daily, and what headlines are translating across multiple industries and sources across LinkedIn’s professional network. Members will have the ability to customise their experience by “following” up to 22 industries, including Internet, Real Estate, Non-Profit and many more. Members will also have the option to “follow” specific news sources, to see the most shared headlines by news source in addition to industry.

“We are being exposed to so much content on a daily basis that it is becoming increasingly difficult to sift through to information that is essential to our professional lives,” said Cliff Rosenberg, Managing Director, LinkedIn Australia and New Zealand. “Signal and Today enables time-poor professionals to extract real-time insights from the large stream of information shared by their network of trusted connections”, he added.

LinkedIn has also deepened its relationship with Twitter to offer members the ability to bind their accounts for a seamless stream of updates and news sharing on both LinkedIn and Twitter platforms. Within the LinkedIn Today product, members will have the ability to share trending news automatically to their Twitter stream, as well as post it to a LinkedIn Group and then email it directly to their existing connections.

The company also announced the launch of LinkedIn’s iPhone application version 3.6, which will also deliver the LinkedIn Today experience to all iPhone users. Professionals, whether they are on the go or in the office, will be able to use their iPhones to natively access top news shared by their industry peers, save articles for later, or post and share headlines with their connections and to their network stream directly from their iPhone.

LinkedIn is making the full version of LinkedIn Signal publicly available to all members starting today. LinkedIn Today in beta will be accessible immediately to all members at www.linkedin/today and will roll out with homepage access to all members in the next few weeks.
