Sovereign wins innovation award

Sovereign’s Best Doctors programme has won an Innovation Excellence Award from financial research and ratings company Canstar Cannex.

The inaugural awards recognise breakthrough products and services introduced in the banking and financial sector in the previous year.

Sovereign signed a New Zealand-first partnership agreement with the international Best Doctors programme in August 2010 and through its specialists and tests benefit gives its customers exclusive access to world leading medical minds.

The network allows eligible policyholders who are diagnosed with serious illnesses or have an injury requiring specialist care to seek opinions from leading international specialists. Best Doctors was set up more than 20 years ago by two Harvard Medical School-affiliated physicians and now operates in 30 countries.

Canstar Cannex determined the winners of its Innovation Excellence Awards by looking at a range of criteria, including:
• The new product or service’s uniqueness in New Zealand
• Its impact on the market, including its potential to benefit people and change lives; and
• Its ability to go beyond expectations and create a “wow factor”.
Canstar Cannex said Sovereign’s partnership with Best Doctors could literally change the life of its customers should they or their immediate family members become seriously ill or injured.

“New Zealanders already have a high-calibre medical workforce looking after them, what makes Sovereign’s offering unique is the unprecedented opportunity to tap into world leading health resources, and get additional expertise and guidance from the leading players in their fields,” said Canstar Cannex.
“This is a proactive way to give customers the confidence that they are getting the correct diagnosis and choosing the best treatment possible.”

Sovereign’s GM of Marketing and Product, David Drillien said the company was thrilled with the award.

“With Best Doctors, we sought to offer our customers additional value from their investment in insurance. The programme adds a new dimension to the security and reassurance already provided by our insurance products.

“We believe Best Doctors is indeed an innovative service. This award is a welcome recognition of its great potential to help people when they need it most.”
