Tiki Designed For Matariki
Tiki Designed For Matariki
Mamarua’s designs evoke a sense of place, a timeless spirit, and a connection to the vibrant land of the South Pacific.
Mamarua celebrates Matariki with the release of our TIKI. This is serendipitous, as our Tiki has had a long period of incubation and we’re thrilled its ready in conjunction with the Maori New Year. Our cheeky Tiki with a belly full of joy and a pointed head was inspired with the breath of Te Maunga o Taranaki. Anna Gundesen (one of ‘Mama rua’) was born & raised in Taranaki even though her Maori heritage is through her great grandfather of Ngai Tahu. The Tiki is an ancient Maori symbol with various legends regarding its meaning. Tiki, the first man in Maori legend (some say he came from the stars) was respected as the teacher of all things and the wearer of this symbol is therefore seen to possess clarity of thought, loyalty, inner knowing and strength of character. Some say it is worn to help with fertility and can be worn as a good luck charm.
Mamarua’s range is 100% NZ made from recycled material. Industrial synthetic resin gets screened, re-ground and coloured and although more time-consuming than using virgin material it saves this waste from our landfills.
The TIKI will be available in over 40 premium design stores throughout Aotearoa with the rest of the Mamarua product whanau. RRP $46
