OceanaGold CFO steps down for other opportunities
June 7 (BusinessDesk) – OceanaGold Corp. chief financial officer Marcus Engelbrecht has stepped down after 2 ½ years in charge of the gold miner’s books.
Engelbrecht stepped down last week to pursue other opportunities, the company said. He took on the role in January 2009, having spent almost three decades in the mining sector with South Africa’s Deane & Thresher and BHP Billiton.
“Marcus has contributed significantly to positioning the company to take advantage of its growth and development opportunities,” chairman Jim Askew said in a statement.
Last month, OceanaGold raised the potential gold reserves 14% to 95,000 ounces at the Reefton Goldfield, and flagged the possibility of another upgrade once further exploration is completed.
The shares, which are also listed on the Toronto and Australian stock exchanges, slumped 7.5% to $3.10 in trading on Friday, and have tumbled 36% this year.
