From Bust to Boom in a day

From Bust to Boom in a day

When Alan Mills bought a successful hair salon in Ellerslie, Auckland with two fully booked stylists he thought he was onto a winner. Then just before he took over, the stylists left and 95% of bookings rang and cancelled. He was beginning to think it was the worst business decision he had ever made.

The first few days were dire and he was contemplating closing the shop down. Then he signed up with Treat Me to be their first hair salon listed and this move quite literally saved the salon. Within a 24 hour period 578 offers were bought. Stylists were transferred from his St Heliers branch whilst new staff were found, the receptionist had to get a headset to answer the phone as there were so many people in the salon she couldn’t hear!

This smart move took the salon from two appointments a day to 12 and created jobs for two new stylists. Without it, they would probably have had to close down. Speaking of the save, Mills conceded, ‘The concept of one day promotions has really turned traditional advertising on its head and gives a sense of urgency to customers to make a purchase. We work on a growth target of 14 new clients a week so in one day we were effectively 41 weeks in advance’.
