Caroline Moore Overcomes The Christchurch Earthquake To Rise Again

The most challenging part was losing two of her largest clients, Ballantynes and an outlet that did not survive the event. “It affected the business dramatically,” says Moore, “but the warehouse was quickly cleared and given the green light to resume trade.”

Moore selected a half dozen outfits to show at the NZFW Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Show on Friday September 2nd. “Ouroborous is the symbol of the snake eating its own tail, and is representative of cyclicality and eternal return,” says Moore. “With all that has happened in my personal life, in Christchurch and with the label I felt it was apt,” she says.

Classically inspired but with a serious infusion of fresh character, the soft, pliable and beautifully cut leather takes on a fresh character with highlights of fuchsia and turquoise. Pleated skirts and stretch leather pants offer something romantic, sleek and chic for ultimate wearability off or on the catwalk.

Presenting just six outfits from her latest collection, Ouroborous, Christchurch based leather designer Caroline Moore feels ‘lucky’ about how her 35 year old business survived the quake.

When it struck, her Sydenham warehouse was shaken to its foundations. “It was horrible, all of the sewing machines were shook off their tables and simply everything fell down,” says Moore.

“But we weren’t that badly hit considering, and were back on board three weeks later,” she says.
