Kiwis beat Aussie in taste bud battle

Beating Australia is a national obsession that goes beyond the rugby field and proud Kiwis will be delighted to hear we’re doing it on the plate too.

Sealord fish fingers have won the taste bud battle on Australian television – beating competitors made in Australia and China.

Our local fish fingers took on four other brands in the consumer programme ACA on Australia’s Channel 9 television station, and came out tops for tasting panel of kids and mums.

It’s no surprise for the proud fish finger producers – the family favourite is made from real hoki fillets coated in crumbs baked at the company’s Nelson premises.

Of the top five brands reviewed Sealord fish fingers also had the lowest saturated fat content at 0.9grams per 100g.

Sealord Marketing General Manager, David Welsh, says the Aussies may be arch rivals on the rugby field, but their taste buds recognise a winner, even when it’s from across the ditch. “Sealord fish fingers could be described as the All Blacks of fish fingers,” David quips.

“But seriously, they’re more than just tasty. Sealord fish fingers are made from fish that’s globally certified as sustainable* and they have the Heart Foundation tick,” he says.

Fish fingers have been a family staple for decades, and a great way for kids and adults alike to enjoy one of the 2-3 serves of seafood per week recommended by nutritionists as part of a healthy diet.
