Ultrafast Fibre to lay 22 kilometres of fibre in Wanganui by 28 February

Local fibre company, Ultrafast Fibre Ltd, plans to complete the installation of 22 kilometres of fibre in Wanganui’s CBD by 28 February.

So far, 20 kilometres of its network has been completed. 2.6 kilometres of fibre will be added to Ultrafast Fibre’s Wanganui network this month at an average speed of 119 metres per day.

The fibre network being built by Ultrafast Fibre in Wanganui is part of a new, coast-to-coast, 3000-kilometre fibre network that will enable organisations and individuals throughout the Central North Island to connect to a new generation of ultrafast broadband in their communities.

Construction of the Ultrafast Fibre network began in 2011 and will be completed in 2016.

Ultrafast Fibre is on track to complete the fastest network build of any local fibre company in New Zealand.

“Wangaui organisations and residents will be among the first in the country to connect to ultrafast broadband at speeds that rival the best in the world.

“From 1 June, 480 business premises can connect to the Ultrafast Fibre network through their preferred retail service provider. Additionally, 3500 residential premises will be able to connect to our network from 1 September,” says company CEO, Maxine Elliott.

During February and March, most of Ultrafast Fibre’s work will take place in the CBD, roughly in the area that is bordered by Kororo Road on the south and York Street on the north. It will also start work in the College Estate suburb.
