Victory for Brancott Estate at Royal Easter Show Wine Awards

19th March 2012

Sweet victory for Brancott Estate at the Royal Easter Show 2012 Wine Awards

Brancott Estate Letter Series ‘B’ Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2011 was awarded the Trophy for Champion Sweet Wine at the 59th Royal Easter Show Wine Awards Dinner, held at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland on Saturday 17th March. The glowing accolade caps off a great result from the 2012 Awards, where a total of 17 Brancott Estate wines received medals, in addition to the Trophy win.

The award-winning Brancott Estate Letter Series ‘B’ Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc, which was announced as a Gold Medal recipient in February, was chosen by Chair of Judges, Kate Radburnd, and renowned Australian wine Judge Mike DeGaris, together with 20 of New Zealand’s leading wine judges, as the very best in its category.

A very versatile dessert wine that is deep golden yellow in colour. Intense mango, dried apricots and honey aromas abound, with hints of fresh herbal notes so renowned in Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is luscious, rich and complex with great length and whilst the wine is designed to be enjoyed now it can also be cellared for up to five years.

Brancott Estate chief winemaker, Patrick Materman proudly accepted the Trophy at the Awards dinner, “We’re extremely proud of this Trophy win that tops off an excellent run for Brancott Estate’s debut dessert wine. Also rated as a five star wine in Cuisine and taking the Champion Sweet Aromatic Trophy at the International Aromatic Wine Competition, this is an exceptional wine. Perfectly matched with a chicken parfait starter at the awards dinner, it highlighted this wine’s versatility. It has a rich, luscious approach, hints of botrytis, orange peel and lime, clear Sauvignon Blanc varietal expression and finishes crisp and fresh.”
