84 per cent of households have gone digital

New Zealand TV starts to go digital in less than five months and 84 per cent of households nationally are ready for it.

New Zealand is going digital in stages with Hawke’s Bay and the West Coast of the South Island, including Murchison and St Arnaud, the first to make the move on 30 September.

“For those people living in Hawke’s Bay and the West Coast who are still to go digital time is running out. After 30 September households in those regions that want to continue watching TV will need to have Freeview or Sky,” said Going Digital National Manager Greg Harford.

Any old TV can go digital with the right set-top box and satellite dish or UHF aerial. Mr Harford says it is important to remember that the move to digital will affect every TV whether it is in the bedroom, shed, bach or in a work place.

“As each region goes digital every analogue TV that you want to continue watching will need a set-top box.”

It also pays to think about video or DVD recorders as these will also need to go digital if they are to continue receiving and recording pictures says Mr Harford.
