MetService brings personalized weather to smartphones

Today MetService launched its innovative new weather app for iPhone and Android. With the ability to personalise the background image for every type of weather forecast, now everyone can control at least one aspect of their daily weather.

The app features MetService's latest Towns and Cities forecasts, from hourly through to 10 days out, along with real-time rain radar, 3-day rain forecasts, stunning video from MetService TV, and local traffic cameras. Even the image backgrounds change according to the forecast for the current location.

"The launch of this app is another significant step in our digital strategy,and reinforces our commitment to get MetService forecasts direct to the public no matter where they are - and in a format that's engaging and easy to use," said MetService General Manager Communications, Jacqui Bridges.

The apps have been designed by long-time MetService partner Shift, and built by app gurus PaperKite (iPhone) and MetService's own in-house developers (Android).

"PaperKite is delighted to have helped build this MetService app, which is absolutely world class. New Zealand has a lot of weather and this app is going to be great at helping people plan in real time how they work and play out there," said Nic Gibbens, Creative Director of PaperKite.

The introduction of its smartphone app follows on from a significant year of digital innovation from MetService, which saw the launch of its iPad app and major enhancements to its website - including the launch of MetService TV video forecasts in December 2011.

The app costs just .59 and is available now from the Apple Store and Google Play.
