Remuera New World goes organic all over

Remuera New World goes organic all over

At least 20% of the fresh produce at Remuera New World is now certified organic and most of it is selling for the same price as conventional produce.

Now this trend-setting supermarket is going one step further with a storewide celebration of organic products this Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 June 2012.

There will be tastings and recipes available including juices from the Produce department, soups and salads from the Delicatessen, plus other delights from the Grocery, Butchery, and Wine departments from 10am – 4pm on Saturday and 12noon – 6pm on Sunday.

Celebrity chef Pater Chaplin – best known to New Zealanders for his cooking demos on TVNZ’s Good Morning show – will be on hand showing customers how to create delicious and healthy cuisine using organic produce.

Several of the hand-picked organic growers who supply the supermarket will be there on both days to meet the customers, tell them how their produce is grown, and answer any questions, says Remuera New World owner/operator Adrian Barkla.

“People from all walks of life are into organics now – in fact, organic products have become completely mainstream,” he says. “Why? Because patrons are now aware of the benefits of fruits and vegetables – supporting good health and wellbeing through nature’s own produce. If it’s good for you, then it’s good for the environment – nutrient rich and pesticide free.

“Hosting our growers at the supermarket is a great way to promote the whole idea of organics because once you’ve met the growers and seen their passion for producing great organic fruit and vegies, you know your health and the health of your family is in good hands.”

Mr Barkla walks the talk himself with a personal diet that strongly features healthy, raw, fresh produce.

“I believe organically grown fresh fruit and vegetables eaten raw as much as possible should be the mainstay of a healthy diet.

“My vision is to offer top quality organic produce at the same or nearly the same price as conventional produce. I am passionate about giving my customers quality organic produce at a fair price. The more we support our growers, the more they will be able to offer our customers competitive prices and a wider range of fruit and vegies.

“In this way I can support my excellent organic suppliers and keep making the best, healthiest fresh produce available to my valued customers.”
