Local Designers represent Bay of Plenty at National Awards

Local Designers represent Bay of Plenty at National Awards

Woods the Creative Agency are honoured to represent the Bay of Plenty at the 2012 BeST Design Awards. This is the third time in four years that their work has featured in the national awards, and on 5th October they will find out if their Christmas gift is crowned supreme winner in the Self Promotion category.

As the only local designers announced as finalists in the Graphics section, Woods are hoping a win in the prestigious national event will help raise the profile of design in the region. Inspired by the need to appreciate the smaller things in life, the designer matchboxes and accompanying ‘compendium’ booklet were used to introduce clients to their new brand. Sustainability was a factor in the design of the gift, with those who had read the informative booklet encouraged to use it for starting a fire and roasting marshmallows.

According to Director, Reuben Woods, the idea for the matchboxes stemmed from a recent camping trip. “We didn't have a way of starting a fire to cook the family food. It was an ‘aha’ moment where we considered the things we take for granted like warmth, water and food.”

The Tauranga locals are also making waves internationally, as the only New Zealand agency with work selected for the 7th volume in the prestigious Logo Lounge series of books. After a rigorous selection process by an international panel of judges, two of their logo designs were selected from over 36,000 around the world to appear in the best-selling design book.
