Syl Semantics appoints John Selby and Marcel van den Assum as Directors
Wellington-based software company Syl Semantics today announced that it had appointed two experienced non-executive directors to its board, John Selby and Marcel van den Assum.
John Selby specialises in providing governance and advisory services to fast growing companies. A chartered accountant and former PricewaterhouseCoopers audit partner, John provided acquisition, audit and risk management services to public and private companies in New Zealand, Australia and Asia for 24 years. He currently acts in a governance role for Victoria University of Wellington, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Productivity Commission.
Marcel van den Assum is a professional director and independent business advisor. He is currently chairman of Voco Limited and Greenbutton Ltd, a director of Simpl Group Ltd and Yonix Ltd, a partner in Lush Design Gallery, and is on the New Zealand Inland Revenue advisory board. GreenButton and Yonix are early stage companies addressing a global market from New Zealand. Prior to his governance career, Marcel was CIO of Fonterra for five years and prior to that Managing Principal of Unisys New Zealand. He is a member of Angel HQ, Ice Angels, the Institute of Directors and Business for Social Responsibility.
Syl Semantics’ chief executive Sean Wilson said, “John and Marcel are experienced directors who have contributed to the success of many New Zealand businesses. They specialise in fast growing, innovative companies looking to address a global market from New Zealand. That people of their calibre have chosen to join our board provides further endorsement for Syl and its growth intentions.”
Marcel van den Assum and John Selby join existing directors Lindsay Jackson, Craig Jones and Sean Wilson on the Syl Semantics board.
About Syl Semantics
Syl Semantics is a privately owned Wellington-based software company established in late 2008. In July 2011, after two and a half years of research and development, Syl Semantics launched a new generation Enterprise Search product, Syl Search, based on their proprietary semantic (context understanding) technology platform. This has been met with encouraging market response with three significant government agencies now using the technology and a large number of other organizations highly interested.
Syl Search accesses data from all manner of content sources within an organisation, irrespective of the technology used to store it or whether the data is geographically dispersed. It permits searches based on jargon, acronyms and other specific-use terminology and concepts used within different companies and industries. This ability to configure custom dictionaries, the security models employed and the ease of installation and upkeep, provide significant advantages to companies wanting to access their information in a smarter way.
Syl Semantics is now engaging with a variety of strategic partners to accelerate local and offshore market penetration.
