Agenda for first session of long-term fiscal External Panel

Agenda for first session of long-term fiscal External Panel on-line

An independent external panel of experts and commentators, established by the Treasury to test and challenge its analysis of the Crown’s long-term financial challenges, will hold its first session in Wellington tomorrow.

The panel will meet four times between August 30 and the end of November and is tasked with critically reviewing the research papers and analysis being conducted by Treasury analysts, or commissioned by the Treasury, as the department prepares its 2013 Long-term Fiscal Statement.

The panel sessions, chaired by Professor Bob Buckle, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Victoria Business School, will provide an opportunity for panel members to directly put questions to the authors of research papers and to propose additional avenues for research and examination which might strengthen the robustness and utility of the Treasury’s next long-term fiscal statement. The Treasury is required under the Public Finance Act to present Parliament with a long-term fiscal statement at least every four years and the next Statement is expected to be tabled by 1 April 2013.

The agenda for the August 30 session of the external panel is available here:
