Local Authority Statistics: June 2012 quarter key facts

Local authorities had a quarterly operating deficit of $145 million in the June 2012 quarter, after adjusting for seasonal effects.

Seasonally adjusted local authority statistics for the June 2012 quarter, compared with the March 2012 quarter, show that:
• Operating income increased $142 million (up 7.0 percent), driven by rises in investment income, and current grants, subsidies, and donations income.
• Operating expenditure increased $241 million (up 11.7 percent), driven by rises in purchases and other operating expenditure, and employee costs.

Local authorities' actual (not seasonally adjusted) deficit for the June 2012 quarter was $117 million, compared with a deficit of $152 million in the June 2011 quarter.
