Hydrocarbon Safety AWARENESS training course

Hydrocarbon Safety AWARENESS training course Friday 12 October 2012

The Climate Control Companies Association (CCCA) representing companies in the HVAC&R industry in New Zealand, has received funding from the Ministry for the Environment (MFE) to develop a short hydrocarbon safety training course (4 hours) to be offered at a low cost to all practitioners in NZ.

Rob Morgan chair of the CCCA is pleased that collaboration between MFE and CCCA has enabled this course to become a reality and the course will be rolled out at the CCCA annual conference Friday 12 October in Wellington.

Morgan says, ‘We have grave concerns regarding the lack of knowledge about natural refrigerants and the training being developed will be a first step in addressing this gap.

The use of hydrocarbon and other natural refrigerants is becoming more common with the phase out of CFC and HCFC refrigerants under the requirements of the Ozone Layer Protection Act. The natural refrigerants are more flammable and dangerous to the practitioner and the public. Training and competence assurance to use these flammable refrigerants should be mandatory to ensure practitioner health and public safety is protected.

International Trainer Andrew McRoberts presents the 12 October course. Andrew is the Technical Training Coordinator at Fisher & Paykel in Australia and is well known and respected in the industry.

Many HVAC&R practitioner-trainers will be attending the 12 October course to enable them to offer the programme nationwide in 2013.
