Intercad launches SolidWorks 2013 in ANZ

Intercad launches SolidWorks 2013 in ANZ
Suite of new design features to make life easier, more productive organisation-wide

Sydney, Australia (September 27, 2012) – Intercad, the leading Australian and New Zealand authorised reseller of SolidWorks 3D CAD/CAM technology, is launching SolidWorks 2013 at a series of dynamic hands-on events across Australia and New Zealand.

Working closely with the SolidWorks development team and the local SolidWorks community for more than two decades, Intercad says the new products and design tools, faster modelling and enhanced collaboration will simplify a company’s product development and make businesses more productive.

“There is something for everyone with SolidWorks 2013. Great new features that will make big differences across organisations on a daily basis. For example, those that have to produce to a tough schedule will appreciate the new drawing sections tool, while others will appreciate having more control over the sheet metal bend note, and others will go with making SpeedPak configurations at the top level for large assemblies,” said Intercad’s Mark Duggan, one of ANZ’s few SolidWorks Elite Application Engineer.

Intercad will be showcasing SolidWorks 2013 at its Innovation Days across ANZ (see end of release for dates and venues).

“Intercad and SolidWorks have come a long way over the 20-plus years we have worked together. I am extremely proud of our team and the suite of innovative products that we have to share with the community this year. At the Innovation Days, our team with unique industry insight, tools, capabilities and expertise will be available to help users address their business issues, navigate the solution jungle and offer advice on how best to deliver world-leading and cutting-edge results,” said Max Piper, Chief Executive Officer, Intercad.

Key SolidWorks 2013 highlights:

For Everyday Users
• Fast Start – SolidWorks now begins loading components in the background when a computer is started, resulting in a faster start/launch.
• New Section Tool User Interface – new interface allows users to create section views, aligned section views and half section views on a drawing, thus, making the process of creating complex sections a lot easier.
• Sheet Metal Bend Note – more control of bend notes, including displaying complementary and supplementary angles or both.
• Convert Drawing View to Sketch – from the shortcut menu, you can convert a drawing to view to sketch entities or a block of sketch entities. This feature will be especially useful to those that use sheet metal and whose CNC machines use colour for tooling.
• Centre of Mass Point in Assemblies – users are now able to add a Centre of Mass (COM) point to an assembly or part. This will automatically update as it is placed at the top of the features tree and so will recalculate.
• SpeedPak Creation from Parent Assemblies – users can now create SpeedPak configurations for sub-assemblies from within a parent assembly.
• Orientation Dialogue Box and View Selector – one can use the View Selector to see and select model views in context. A nice tool that makes changing views easier, especially for newer users.
• Multiple Exploded Views – an exploded view is stored with the configuration in which it is created. Each configuration can have multiple exploded views.

For Administrators
• SolidWorks CAD Admin Dashboard – accessed by clients on subscription through the Customer Portal. It allows users to monitor performance, hardware status and system options settings.
• eDrawings – mark-ups done in eDrawings are visible in the SolidWorks Feature Manager design tree.
• Delayed in State Notifications (Document Management) – users can create notifications that are triggered when a file has been in a state for longer than it should be; users can also create a Delayed in State Notification, where one can specify a resend value to create repeated notifications.
• Parallel Workflow Transitions (Document Management) – when creating or editing a workflow transition, users can select Parallel as the transition type. This requires multiple users to run the transition before a file is moved to a new state.

For Simulation Users
• Plastics – new Plastics module available for injection moulding – SimpoeWorks based.
• Incremental Meshing – allows users to run through and mesh individual components in an assembly, and when ready to fully mesh, it will only mesh those components that are not already meshed.
• Sub-Modelling – for studies with a large number of bodies, the new sub-modelling feature allows users to improve the results at critical areas without having to re-run the analysis for the whole model. Refining the mesh for a selected portion of the model and re-running the analysis only for the sub-model saves computation time.

Maximise Performance of SolidWorks 2013 Applications

To make the most of SolidWorks 2013, Intercad has invested in industry-leading hardware solutions to help businesses innovate and stay ahead of the market.

For instance, the ever popular PhotoView 360, an add-in that produces photo-realistic renderings of SolidWorks models now takes advantage of render farming in SolidWorks 2013. SolidWorks 2013 users can make the most of PhotoView 360 render farming with a high-end purpose-built BOXX technologies workstation or networkable renderPro.
The BOXX workstations, which feature over-clocked and liquid-cooled CPUs housed in custom carriages, can deliver 50 per cent speed increases compared with traditional PCs. With a BOXX workstation, PhotoView 360 users are able to dramatically reduce rendering times, turning a 30-minute render on a conventional dual or quad core PC into a minute and a half, and on average achieving ROIs in 10 weeks from purchase.

IC3D has also added 3D printers to its suite of products, such as the extremely cost effective and first true desktop 3D printer – The Mojo 3D Printer. The Mojo produces models in ABSplus™ production-grade, durable and high-quality thermoplastic. The Mojo is as simple to use as an inkjet printer, yet powerful enough to meet the highest 3D printing standards.

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a part is worth a thousand pictures. For a designer actually holding, touching and feeling an end-product is worth many thousands of pictures. That’s what affordable 3D printing does. Now every designer can have this ability at their desk. Today, not tomorrow, they can print their big ideas. And this shift will transform the businesses that embrace it,” said Julian Spencer, National Product Manager, IC3D.
