Burrito Ben Just Days Away From a Month of Burritos

Media Release 2 October 2012

Burrito Ben Just Days Away From a Month of Burritos

Eating nothing but Mexican for a month is not everyone’s idea of gastronomy, however for one Auckland Burrito enthusiast it’s been a labour of love thanks to Mexicali Fresh.

In August, Burrito Ben (aka Ben Polkinghorne) declared his love for burritos and Mexican food on his blog Auckland Burrito Review and claimed he could survive on nothing else. This throwaway comment led to a challenge from California-style Mexican restaurant, Mexicali Fresh, to only eat from their menu for a month.

“After 26 days of Mexicali Fresh, I still love it,” says Burrito Ben. “The menu has provided plenty of variety and healthy options over the last month – I feel great.

“It’s been an outstanding challenge – I’ve met so many new people, expanded my burrito repertoire beyond belief and come to the conclusion that the Chicken Burrito is my favourite,” says Burrito Ben.

This Friday at 6pm, Princes Wharf Mexicali Fresh will host The Last Meal - a fierce battle between man and burrito and a celebration of Ben’s 30 day challenge. Like any good fiesta there will be food and drink specials as well as premium Tequila tastings.

Mexicali Fresh is also proud to support CanTeen, the only organisation in New Zealand dedicated to supporting young people living with cancer. On Friday and Saturday night, Mexicali Fresh will donate 15 per cent of all profits from its four Auckland stores to CanTeen. Mexicali Fresh staff will be showing their support by wearing the CanTeen bandanna, a symbol of hope, courage and survival and will have bandannas at the counter available for purchase.
