SMX to launch Cloud-based SEEMail email encryption support for Government customers

SMX, the New Zealand-owned cloud platform and email security company, has announced the first multi-tenant cloud-based SEEMail (Secure Electronic Environment Mail) service supporting secure email exchange between government departments.

SMX chief technology officer and co-founder, Thom Hooker, says SMX SEEMail support is now available to the more than 70 government organisations using SEEMail. SMX SEEMail support will also be integrated into the SMX-based email security services offered by SMX resellers such as Fujitsu and Revera.

SMX SEEMail encryption is enabled by the integration of software purpose-developed for SMX by Scientific Software Solutions into the SMX email security technology stack. The SMX SEEMail service will not only be the first truly multi-tenant cloud SEEMail service, Thom Hooker says, but is also fully compliant with the new Version 3 iteration of the SEEMail standard.

He says delivering SEEMail email encryption via the cloud will have a number of advantages, both for government users as well as SMX’s reseller partners providing and managing email filtering and security to government organizations as part of a wider managed services contract.

“SEEMail is the email encryption standard for New Zealand government organisations. It’s well accepted and established, however there have been issues for users. For example it is not well integrated with state-of-the-art email filtering and there have been instances of encrypted viruses being exchanged. And because it has not been available as a Cloud service, users and suppliers have had to manage dedicated servers with all the associated certification and upgrade management requirements and costs.

“The SMX SEEMail service is designed to remove all the management hassles and will enable encryption to be delivered as a seamless part of the SMX cloud email security service,” Thom Hooker said.

About SMX
SMX is a market leader in cloud-based email filtering and cloud platform management. The company's SMX Cloud platform not only delivers state-of-the-art inbound and outbound email filtering but also enables fast and easy integration of virtually any existing enterprise application and the serving of these applications via the cloud model.

SMX Cloud integrates sophisticated user provisioning and billing and is designed to be easily 'white labeled', which means customers including Telcos, IT services companies and Internet Service Providers can incorporate SMX services under their own brands.

A key point of competitive difference is in SMX's strategy of deploying its service 'in country'. Local deployment — through an SMX datacenter or through the datacenters of market partners — ensures data is not routed through other countries, but is served in the customer's own country, under local law and jurisdiction.

SMX has a blue chip list of 200 resellers and partners and more than 8,000 customers and 2 million users throughout the Asia Pacific region. Major international partners include Symantec, Fujitsu, Message Systems, CMC India (a subsidiary of the giant Tata Group) and KVH, highly regarded as one of the most innovative network and managed service companies in Japan — and particularly well known as the provider of very high speed 'low latency' fiber networks to major Japanese financial sector customers, including the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Osaka Securities Exchange, the Tokyo Commodity Exchange and the Tokyo Financial Exchange.

SMX is a privately-owned company based in Auckland, New Zealand, where co-founders Jesse Ball and Thom Hooker lead sales, support and development teams focused on local and international sales, both direct and through reseller and license agreements.
