New Zealand’s got motoring talent

For the nineteenth consecutive year, the AMI Insurance NZ Autocar Car of the Year event will determine the best new car on the local market and this year consumers can vote from the finalists list in the Peoples Choice Award.

More than 80 new or revised cars have been released on the New Zealand market this year. These have been assessed and the top contenders categorised into Small, Compact, Medium/Large, Crossover/SUV/Ute, Luxury/Executive and Performance.

NZ Autocar editor Kyle Cassidy has recruited a robust team of motoring experts to judge the grid this year and he’s excited to see the outcome of the people’s choice.

“We are always excited to bring together industry professionals to judge the cars but to also know how New Zealanders rate new cars will be a great addition to the event. We know our readers are just as passionate and opinionated as we are, so it will be great to give them a voice,” says Kyle.

Along with Kyle the official judges are car and motorcycle reviewer Peter Louisson, author Paul Owen, motoring editor Dave Moore, TV3 sports presenter and motoring reporter for Campbell Live, Shaun Summerfield, Paddy Casey from AMI and New Zealand's long-serving motoring journalist, Rob Maetzig. The team will take the category winners on a road test from Auckland to Taupo before comparing notes to decide their 2012 Car of the Year.

“With so many quality vehicles launched on the market this year, our job narrowing the field won’t be easy but it is always exciting announcing the category winners before we all hit the road together for the final test. We try not to get too heated about decisions but with this much passion, inevitably there are a few colourful discussions when choosing a winner,” says Kyle.
