‘Tis the Season to Regift

‘Tis the Season to Regift

GrabOne’s annual Christmas survey has uncovered a few surprising facts about the way New Zealanders prepare for Christmas and what they do with the gifts they receive.

A heads up for those who spend hours pondering the perfect present for a friend or loved one: 42 per cent of Kiwis have regifted presents they’ve received for Christmas.

Wellingtonians are the worst offenders with 55 per cent passing on their presents followed by Aucklanders (46%). Hawke’s Bay locals are the most likely to hold onto their Christmas gifts with only 39 per cent having regifted Christmas gifts.

Kiwis are not only regifting, they’re also doing plenty of their silly season shopping online; 71 per cent have purchased gifts online or are planning to before Christmas.

Most are well prepared this year with 36 per cent stocking up on their Christmas gifts throughout the year, however 21 per cent leave their Christmas shopping until December with 7 per cent starting just a few days out. The rest are avoiding the rush and completed their shopping in October and November.

GrabOne Marketing Director, Campbell Brown, has some sage advice for those who can’t stand the thought of their carefully picked out Christmas present being regifted.

“We’re fairly confident that anyone who receives a GrabOne voucher or gift card for Christmas won’t be regifting it,” says Brown. “Every year more Kiwis recognise the benefits of shopping online and our sales are indicating that there’s going to be quite a few GrabOne goodies under the tree this year”.

GrabOne’s Christmas survey polled 1,449 customers across New Zealand in November 2012.
