Centralines Celebrates Exceptional Safety Record

11 February 2013 – Central Hawke’s Bay lines company, Centralines, has this week achieved three years with no lost time injuries (LTIs) experienced by employees.

LTIs are defined as any injury that results in a minimum of one full shift’s absence from work, and is one of the measures used by The Department of Labour to asses a Company’s health and safety performance. Within the electrical industry, the average LTIs for a company the size of Centralines is just over two per year, which equates to 12 days of lost time.

Centralines Chairman Sam Robinson is thrilled with the achievement, in what is a hazardous industry.

“Our team work with electricity, heavy machinery and materials. They work at heights, drive on narrow remote roads, off-road over rough terrain, and in stormy conditions. To not have sustained an injury – even a sprained ankle – in the last three years is a testament to the team’s commitment to safety.”

Centraline’s Area Manager Trevor Hanson attributes the exceptional safety record to the culture within the Company.

“This is a big family that cares about each other, and wants to ensure everyone stays safe. In everything we do, safety always comes first.

“The safety message not only keeps the staff safe at work; the staff take the message and practices home, reducing incidents at home and keeping the people most important to them safe”.

In addition to having a healthy workforce, Mr Hanson also notes there are flow on benefits, including increased productivity, a positive work environment, and reduced costs to the nation’s health sector.
