Golden Run for Coopers Creek as Harvest Kicks Off

Media Release – 5 March 2013

Golden Run for Coopers Creek as Harvest Kicks Off

Four Gold Medals for Coopers Creek Vineyard at the Easter Show Wine Awards – a well timed achievement as the first grapes of the 2013 vintage are harvested.

The results from New Zealand’s longest running wine competition were both welcome and well timed for Coopers Creek Vineyard. The awarding of four Gold Medal awards coincided with the picking of the 2013 vintage’s first grapes for the winery, Albariño from Gisborne.

A total of 95 Gold Medal awards were made at the show, with almost half of these going to only six wineries, including Coopers Creek. As the smallest winery in this group by a considerable margin, the Huapai based producer is delighted with another strong awards performance.

The four Gold Medal awards are:

Coopers Creek Reserve Hawkes Bay Syrah 2010

Coopers Creek SV Gisborne Albariño 'Bell-Ringer' 2012

Coopers Creek SV Hawkes Bay Syrah 'Chalk Ridge' 2011

Coopers Creek SV Central Otago Pinot Noir 'Razorback' 2010

This is the fourth Gold Medal for the Reserve Syrah 2010 and the fifth for the Select Vineyards Albariño 2012.

Winemaker Simon Nunns is delighted with the accolades: “The Albariño has impressed every one we’ve tasted it with, so another medal continues its great run. The two Syrah and the Pinot Noir are all grown on steep slopes, with a huge effort going into these wines throughout the season in the vineyard and then in the winery. Very pleasing to get this acknowledgement for all these wines!”
