Responsive Web Design Key to Successful Pet Site

Media Release 23 May 2013

Responsive Web Design Key to Successful Pet Site

New Zealand’s newest online pet retailer, Pet.co.nz is leading by example with the responsive design of its ecommerce site.

Pet.co.nz, which launched in March, was built to work seamlessly across smartphone, tablet and desktop computers to ensure customers get the same user experience across all devices.

While responsive web design isn’t a new concept, according to Pet.co.nz Founder Shane Bradley, few ecommerce sites do it well.

“Responsive design was integral to the build of Pet.co.nz and we ensured it underpinned everything we did from the very start,” says Bradley.

Bradley believes responsive design is “becoming a necessity” with the rapid adoption of tablets and smartphones as shopping devices in New Zealand.  In the US, mobile sales are expected to make up a 15 per cent share of all retail ecommerce sales this year and Bradley is seeing this trend mirrored in the early sales on Pet.co.nz.

“Already we are seeing 23 per cent of our traffic on Pet.co.nz coming from smartphones and tablets and we’re only expecting that to increase,” he says.

Bradley knows a thing or two about what makes a successful ecommerce site having founded and sold market leading daily deal site, GrabOne.

“Responsive design is essential for a truly successful ecommerce site,” says Bradley. “Many sites out there work okay on two out of the three platforms but then fall over on the third.  This is where Pet.co.nz comes into its own and, I believe, is establishing itself as one of the best ecommerce sites in the market.”

Pet.co.nz was born from Bradley’s personal need for a more convenient way to shop for pet supplies.  With over 6,000 unique pet products from more than 280 local and international brands, Pet.co.nz is New Zealand’s largest online pet care retailer.
