Masterton Shopper Wins Dream Family Home After Groceries

Masterton Shopper Wins Dream Family Home After Grocery Purchase

Michelle Cooper, 38, has another pantry to fill after winning a Queenstown house and land package valued at $500,000. The Masterton local struck it lucky in her local Countdown supermarket when she stocked up on her favourite personal care products using her Onecard.

Simply by purchasing her usual Rexona deodorant and new hair care range, Clear Hair & Scalp Therapy, Michelle and her family can now look forward to owning their very own home.

'I was in shock when the store manager of Countdown Masterton arrived on the door step with a letter to say I'd won a home, simply by doing my regular grocery shop. I've never owned a home. I haven't even looked into it because it's always seemed to be just out of reach,' says Michelle.

'Now I have a home in one of the most beautiful locations in New Zealand. It's lovely and modern, with views of the Remarkables and very close to the Shotover River. The whole family is in awe, it's absolutely life-changing.'

Michelle, her partner of 20 years and their two children have also won $10,000 worth of Air New Zealand travel as part of the package and will be using it to visit their new Stonewood home regularly, which was handed over to them in an official ceremony today.

Ken Basha, Country Director for Unilever New Zealand, says, 'The Countdown Win a Home promotion was inspired by an insight that the Kiwi dream of home ownership is fast becoming un-attainable. We're absolutely delighted to help Michelle and her family own their first home.'

To be in to win Countdown shoppers simply had to purchase three products from participating brands, including Persil, Continental, Choysa and Dove, and swipe their Onecard.

Michelle, a co-ordinator for Wairarapa Refuge's Tamariki programme, which caters for children who have lived with or experienced domestic violence, says the Queenstown home will allow the family to take a few more breaks and get away from it all.

'I love my job, but it can be very intense at times dealing with the aftermath of domestic violence. This home will enable us to get away as a family, enjoy time together and return to Masterton recharged. I can't wait!'
