Tip Top Scoops ‘Best Ice Cream’ Global Award

Tip Top Scoops ‘Best Ice Cream’ Global Award

04 June 2013 - When it comes to being number one, Kiwis are used to our sports heroes doing us proud, but this time New Zealand has conquered the world with ice cream.

Tip Top Ice Cream isn’t shy of fame and gongs right here in New Zealand, as demonstrated by its medal haul at this year’s New Zealand Ice Cream Awards.*

But a recent global award has placed a Tip Top ice cream number one in the world as voted by other ice cream makers.

The International Ice Cream Consortium (IICC) has awarded Tip Top Crammed Jammin’ Cream Donut the coveted award of Best Ice Cream at the last annual conference.

The IICC is a global authority in ice cream excellence with vast international representation including Germany, UK, Norway, Spain, Croatia, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Iran and China.

IICC Executive Officer, Gerhard Larcher is thrilled to see Tip Top New Zealand win for the first time in the history of the prestigious awards.

“When awarding the ‘Best Ice Cream’ category, our judges are looking for the best sensory experience - taste, texture and the varying sensations you’re experiencing as the flavours unfold,” Gerhard shares.

“Overwhelming feedback from members was that Crammed Jammin’ Cream Donut really hit all the senses.”

Gerhard was not surprised to learn that New Zealanders are one of the biggest consumers of ice cream in the world, per capita, advising that ice cream manufacturers are only as good as the quality of commodities and freshness of ingredients at their disposal.

“New Zealand ice cream is rich and creamy compared to other countries that simply don’t have access to abundant sources of dairy. New Zealand ice cream significantly benefits from this fresh dairy and a wealth of other natural ingredients available to them.

“Indeed, Tip Top Crammed Jammin’ Cream Donut contains no artificial colours or flavours, which is testament to this.”

Tip Top New Zealand Group Marketing Manager, Minna Reinikkala, is thrilled with the international award, particularly within the exciting new Crammed range which has seen Kiwis vote similarly with their taste buds since it launched last October.

“We are delighted to be recognised by our international peers at the IICC,” says Minna. “And we are especially proud to taste success with a relative newcomer in Crammed Jammin’ Cream Donut.

“IICC members represent the top echelon of quality ice cream innovators and manufacturers around the world. To have our Crammed Jammin’ Cream Donut win the Best Ice Cream Award is a thrill and an honour. It’s an outstanding acknowledgement for Tip Top and the wider industry here in New Zealand.”
