Telecom Broadband Special Access to Premier League

MEDIA RELEASE
4 July 2013

Telecom Broadband Customers Get Special Access to Barclays English Premier League (BEPL)

Telecom the official Telecommunications & ICT Partner for PremierLeaguePass.com
All 50GB broadband plans upgraded to 80GB at no extra cost – means fans can view more content, including BEPL

Football fans who are customers of the country’s biggest broadband provider Telecom New Zealand will be offered some of the most affordable access rates to the Barclays (English) Premier League (BEPL) via its nationwide broadband network and PremierLeaguePass.com.

Telecom is offering existing broadband customers a 15 per cent discount [1] on the PremierLeaguePass.com ‘Season Pass’, and they can also go in to a draw to win one of 1,000 free ‘Season’ passes.

New Telecom broadband [2] customers signing up for the mid-range plans on a 12 month contract can choose a free ‘Season Pass’ with access to all 380 live games available from PremierLeaguePass.com.

Today’s announcement offers more Kiwis an affordable, high-quality viewing of the BEPL games this season, following its move to internet broadcasting from Coliseum Sports Media’s new online portal PremierLeaguePass.com.

“We’re absolutely stoked to be able to partner with Coliseum Sports Media to bring the most popular football league in the world to more New Zealanders,” says Chris Quin, CEO Telecom Retail.

“With the largest broadband customer base in the country, Telecom’s extensive broadband network means more football fans around the country can get their fill of Premier League action.”

“While most customers will be able to access the service via their standard ADSL broadband, we hope that more people will see online experiences like this as the perfect opportunity to upgrade to faster broadband, either by UFB if available or through VDSL, which Telecom is launching in time for the northern hemisphere season and offers the highest speeds available on copper. Better, faster broadband through Telecom’s Ultra Fibre (UFB) and soon, VDSL, means customers will be able to experience the games like never before.”

To help make sure Kiwi BEPL fans have all the data they need to live-stream or devour as many on-demand games and BEPL content as they want, Telecom has announced today it has increased its popular 50GB plans (which start at $85 per month) to 80GB at no additional cost [3]. The company has also recently revised their entire range of home phone and broadband packages to deliver more generous data allowances, including a 500GB package priced from $119 per month.

It is estimated that a standard 90-minute game will use roughly 1.1GB depending on the quality of the stream selected.

CEO of Coliseum Sports Media, Tim Martin says “We are excited to partner with Telecom and the largest broadband customer base in New Zealand. By reaching more fans with Telecom, at a discounted price or in some cases free access, even more fans can get involved with the BEPL experience via PremierLeaguePass.com.”

“More football fans in New Zealand having the power to watch the most competitive and compelling competition in the world of football is at the very heart of PremierLeaguePass.com and with Telecom’s superb networks and market reach, Telecom will undoubtedly help bring the atmosphere of the stadium into the home.”

As well as the support PremierLeaguePass.com will be providing their users, Telecom will provide education and guidance for accessing online content through the Help & Support section of its website and the ‘Tech in a Sec’ video tutorial series.

For new and existing customers to take advantage of the special deals, pre-registration ahead of the 1 August kick-off is available at www.telecom.co.nz/football.
