Provisional Cost of June Storm Over
$33 Million
More than $33 million of insured damage
was caused by the storm that hit the country at the end of
June 2013, the Insurance Council of New Zealand reported
today.
“New Zealand’s generally high levels of insurance uptake make for a quick economic recovery at times like this with about 9500 claims valued at over $21 million settled for home and contents damage and $9 million for commercial claims,” said ICNZ Chief Executive Tim Grafton. “More than $1 million of motor vehicle claims were also settled from the storm that lashed the country from 20 to 22 June.”
Data was collected on a nationwide, not a regional, basis due to the nature of the storm.
Home and contents settlements made up 85% of claims but 62% of the total value of claims for the June storm.
