University of Auckland Re-Platforms Websites with Adobe Solutions
The University of Auckland has selected Adobe to re-platform and manage its web content and digital assets to create an engaging experience for students, staff and alumni.
The University’s current CMS was due for replacement and the University went to market for a new solution. After an extensive evaluation process, the Adobe® Experience Manager was selected for its robustness, ease of use and full functionality across any device.
“The University aims to be forward-thinking when it comes to our web presence, which is why we looked to products that will help us deliver our future web roadmap,” says Julian Wootton, Web Manager, The University of Auckland.
“Two of our key strategies for transformation centre around personalisation and mobile, and we want to stand out as a leader in both these areas.”
Adobe’s New Zealand Sales Director Chris Gray says that more universities are thinking about how they can better engage with people using their digital assets.
“Customers have high expectations for the experience they get online and this is no different for a university,” says Mr Gray.
“To stay ahead requires a platform that offers a personalised, digitally-rich experience, across all devices. Adobe Experience Manager helps universities deliver this experience and capture the attention of their customers by constantly adapting and innovating as the web landscape changes and evolves.”
The priority now for The University of Auckland is to migrate its existing websites to Adobe Experience Manager starting in July. The University also plans to use the digital asset management functionality to store digital content including videos and images in a central repository, where they can be easily organised, shared and published directly. This will replace the current solution which is hosted externally in the cloud, saving on ongoing licence fees.
While the University’s websites are transferred to the new platform, business cases are being developed around a number of areas including personalisation, mobile experience and social media integration.
“When it comes to personalisation, the vision is for people to land on the website and be presented with tailored, relevant content, based on what they are studying and whether they are undergraduate, postgraduate, staff or alumni,” says Mr Wootton. “It’s about creating a better, personal experience for our customers and making our websites easier to use.”
The University has around 300 users who are now being trained to use Adobe’s content management system.
“In user testing, our users found the interface rich and intuitive and we don’t expect any trouble moving people from our existing system and utilising the new functionality,” Mr Wootton said
Adobe Experience Manager will be hosted in-house by the University, but there are options to migrate to the cloud in future.
“We are interested in moving to the cloud and will look into this going forward,” says Mr Wootton.
“The way we are deploying Adobe Experience Manager internally means we can quite comfortably migrate to the cloud in the future if that’s something we decide to do.”
The University of Auckland also uses creative software in the Adobe® Creative Cloud™, under the Adobe Education Enterprise Agreement and Captivate 7 for creation of e-learning modules.
