OOB’s retro-nostalgic orange chocolate chip ice cream

NEW: OOB’s retro--nostalgic orange chocolate chip ice cream.

Created in partnership with four entrepreneurial teenagers to support the Child Cancer Foundation.

When four budding entrepreneurs from St Mary’s College in Auckland decided to enter the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme, they immediately knew what they wanted to do: create an organic ice cream, and help raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation.

Kezia Lynch, Hope Gibson, Maddy Price and Bella Kofoed have teamed up with OOB to launch New Zealand’s first organic orange chocolate chip ice cream.

“When we thought of sick children in hospital, we imagined them finding happiness and comfort through the ice creams served at mealtimes,” say the girls.

“And if you’re going to have a treat, why not have the healthiest but yummiest treat possible?

We decided to approach OOB because we enjoy their ice cream, and they appealed to us as a New Zealand company with a positive image."

The St Mary’s team have been involved in every step of the process.

First of all, they researched opinion amongst their peers.

The Kiwi classic, orange chocolate chip, with its retro--nostalgic taste of bygone summers, proved a winner.

They then learned about the science of making ice cream with OOB’s Murray Taylor, conducting a bench trial at the OOB ice cream factory to fine--tune the flavour and add flakes of luxurious organic Belgian dark chocolate.

They even decided on the exact amount of organic carrot juice required to create the most appealingly orangey colour.

The girls have also helped to design the label, and worked alongside OOB’s Shannon Auton to sell in their ice cream to supermarkets and other stockists.

For Auton, the decision to get involved was an easy one.

“This is a group of motivated teenagers wanting the opportunity to learn, and there’s a synergy with our business, so we were really motivated to help.

On a personal level, our Sales Manager Julia sadly lost her daughter to cancer, so it’s important to us to actively support the Child Cancer Foundation."

OOB orange chocolate chip ice cream is available in speciality stores and selected New World supermarkets.

Fifty cents from the sale of each 850ml pot and 30 cents from each 120ml pottle will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation.
