Lydia Ko Joins Telecom Customers for Midnight Iphone Launch

Lydia Ko Joins Telecom Customers for Midnight Iphone Launch

Dion Zhang (L) receives the first iPhone 5s to be sold in Auckland from professional golfer and Telecom customer Lydia Ko.

Recently turned ‘pro’ NZ golfer, Lydia Ko joined devoted Apple fans at Telecom Place in Auckland last night to be part of the midnight launch of the new iPhone range.

Eager Telecom customers started queuing Thursday afternoon in a bid to be one of the first in the country to get their hands on the new iPhone 5s or 5c shortly after midnight this morning.

Lydia Ko, a Telecom customer herself, personally sold the first iPhone 5s to Aucklander, Dion Zhang who queued from mid-afternoon on Thursday to claim his place as one of the very first Kiwis to purchase the new iPhone.

Ms Ko, a keen Apple fan and technology user herself embraced the hype and excitement of the launch and treated customers to an informal Q&A session on all things technology, her love of Apple and of course her recent YouTube announcement on going ‘pro’. She also gave a number of customers a run for their money in friendly games of interactive golf and indoor putting.

Telecom Retail CEO, Chris Quin said the midnight queuing experience was a yearly highlight for Telecom and he was especially excited to have Lydia join Telecom customers there on the night.

“The iPhone launch is always an exciting time and we were especially excited to have Lydia come along to the event and spend the evening with us. She is a great ambassador for how extraordinary Kiwis are using technology to do great things, in their own way – like using social media to make a global announcement about her golfing career!”

“We’re pleased to add the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c to our strong range of smartphone devices available to customers on the Telecom Mobile Network. The iPhone has long inspired Kiwis to get onboard the latest smartphone technology, unleashing their ability to get on and do more and we are right here to help them do that.

“With our 4G network about to launch in parts of New Zealand on November 12, the fast growth of our national WiFi network, and our improved roaming options for Kiwis taking on the world, there has never been a better time to be a Telecom smartphone customer. And we have more exciting things to announce in the next few months.”

Wellington and Christchurch customers were also a part of the Telecom midnight launch with Telecom stores open throughout the night on Willis Street and in Riccarton Mall.
