Vector Network News: 2 February 2015

Auckland residents may have thought the past week was extremely hot, but it’s not the hottest the city has experienced.

Temperatures peaked at 32.4 degrees Celsius at 3pm on February 12, 2009. This equalled the previous high recorded in the Auckland Domain in February 1872 – 137 years ago. Temperatures look set to cool a little in the week ahead, particularly overnight.

Network summary for week ending 1 February 2015

Electricity
House fires kept our crews busy during the week with crews called to isolate power to buildings in Three Kings, Mangere Central, Beach Haven and Papakura.

A tree on the berm that was too close to power lines caught fire in Kelston. The tree was referred to Treescape for further attention.

Emergency services advised us of a damaged pole in Papakura during the week. It was a council asset, but our contractors made the site safe before referring it to the council.

Vector crews had to wait for other repair work to be completed before reinstating a pole and lines down in Unsworth Heights during the week. Lines down were reported in Otara, Mt Roskill, Epsom and Glenfield and Whitford. In each case, Vector was stood down by emergency services, as our assets were not affected.

Projects

Wynyard Quarter
Vector has been helping to beautify Auckland’s waterfront with a major project at the Northern end of Wynyard Quarter nearing completion. Gas, electricity and fibre cables had to be relocated to make way for large planter boxes with trees which now line the streets.
