National forestry truck expert recognised

Logging truck engineer, Lincoln Taylor was awarded a Fellowship of the Institution of Professional Engineers NZ for his leadership in and major contribution to making New Zealand logging trucks and trailers stronger and safer. He is recognised as a leading designer in the heavy road vehicle industry in New Zealand.

He has been a leader in improving codes and standards for heavy vehicle certification and was a founding member of the Log Transport Safety Council. He has previously received a New Zealand Engineering Excellence Award for designing a very innovative frame attachment for holding logs on trucks – known as log bolsters, which have a stunning safety record.

He is personally credited with having designed, inspected, and certified the manufacture of approximately one third of the logging trailers in the New Zealand fleet.

“The Fellows’ and Achievers’ Dinner is a very special occasion for IPENZ as we honour and celebrate the outstanding individuals who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the engineering profession. It is an opportunity to highlight the great work our engineers do and the positive benefits brought to New Zealand,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Susan Freeman-Greene.

Lincoln was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington, on Friday 13 March 2015.
