AMP takes steps addressing shortage of women in senior roles

AMP makes significant steps in addressing the shortage of women in senior roles

Leading life insurer and retirement savings provider, AMP is making significant steps to address the shortage of women in senior roles with the induction of the 50th woman into its Women in Leadership programme.

The 2015 programme has also been expanded to include delegates from a number of corporate partnerships – a direct response to the fact that currently only 19%* of the top roles in the country are held by women

Jack Regan, Managing Director, of AMP New Zealand says: “In 2013 we recognised that there was an issue in New Zealand in terms of the number of women entering and staying at senior level roles and we wanted to take significant steps to address this. The Women in Leadership programme is our flagship talent programme and we’re delighted that in just the third year we have seen the 50thwoman inducted into the programme.

“This year we have expanded the programme to include external delegates from a broad range of some of New Zealand’s most well-known companies. We believe this will help not only AMP, but also a number of other companies, to help address the declining numbers of women represented at senior levels across the country. It will also lead to improved networking opportunities for delegates and increase the thought diversity across the programme,” continues Regan.

“Development of senior female leaders is just one part of AMP’s broader diversity and inclusiveness strategy which includes a focus on flexible work arrangements and parental leave. It’s also important that our workforce reflects the diversity of our customers. The gender split for AMP is 59% female and 41% male, and for Managers and above it is 55% male and 45% female. Our return to work rate after parental leave is at 80% - above the NZ average of 75%,” concludes Regan.
