NetHui’s strength in diversity

NetHui’s strength in diversity

Attracting a more diverse group of people to get involved and have their say on Internet issues is a major focus for NetHui 2015’s organisers.

Now in its fifth year, NetHui is a 3-day event is organised by InternetNZ, a non-profit member organisation dedicated to keeping the Internet open and accessible to everyone.

Diversity and engagement from across the community are important to the future of New Zealand’s Internet. InternetNZ chief executive Jordan Carter says NetHui 2015 wants to make sure voices from local communities are heard on the issues and opportunities of the Internet world.

“NetHui is always exceptionally well supported by the New Zealand Internet community, but we want to ensure there is a wide range of Kiwis involved in the conversation, to better understand what’s happening with the Internet now and what’ll happen in the future.

“The most effective decision-making comes as result of the participation of diverse groups of people and that’s what NetHui 2015 is all about.”

The first day of the conference features a number of workshops, including the Māori Meetup and meeting of the Pacific Islands Chapter of the Internet Society (PacINET).
