Chamber acknowledges Sir John Todd

The Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce acknowledges the death of Wellington businessman Sir John Todd.

Chief Executive John Milford said Sir John was a giant of Wellington commerce, heading one of Wellington’s and New Zealand’s most successful privately owned companies for 24 years.

“As chairman of Todd Corporation, Sir John followed in the footsteps of his forebears who took the company through great change and diversification since the family’s first commercial venture in the South Island in 1884.

“The company has been one of the great quiet achievers, having interests in the motor vehicle, energy, minerals, aircraft, property, wine, and healthcare sectors down the years, and Sir John played a big part in that.

“His contribution to the business community cannot be overestimated, and nor can his charity work as head of the Todd Foundation which showed how business can play its part in the community.”
